Module Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered using formal presentation and student centred approaches in interactive seminars. You will be directed to appropriate reading. Case studies will be used and presented by guest speakers when possible for support. The module will be supported by its own internet pages with links to appropriate reference sites. You will have developed your research skills further in the course of this module. Practical demonstrations or exercises will be used to supplement the lectures. The normal balance will be one-hour lecture and two hours tutorial per week.
The module can be optionally supplemented with CCNA online material and practical work as part of the progression toward being prepared for the fourth quarter of the Cisco Certified Network Associate Exam (CCNA).

Module Indicative Content
1. The Convergence of Technology - the coming together of computers, telephony, television and other devices
2. Mobile communications - cellular networks, other wireless communication systems, mobile network operations,management and security issues. The
development of mobile internet software.
3. Current and emerging standards in mobile communications technology including NA-TDMA, NA-CDMA, GSM and emerging standards / voice over IP /
voice XML
4. The Contact-Centre concept and computer telephony integration (CTI)
5. Technology applied to group working and workflow
Module Additional Assessment Details
A class test - unseen - length 1 hour weighted at 30%. (Learning outcomes 1 and 3)
An assignment weighted at 70% (Learning outcomes 2 and 4). Develop a wireless application and 1,000 word written report.
