Module Details
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Coursework, weighted at 70%, which will assess Learning Outcomes (Learning Outcomes 1-3). See further information below on coursework requirements.

A Presentation, weighted at 30% of 15 minutes in length (plus time for questions) which outlines the skills gained during the placement. (Learning Outcome 4).

Based upon the students work in the agreed minimum 150 hour period whilst in industry placement, a formal assessment will take place and predominantly takes the form of an interview and presentation.

The coursework element will consist of:
-A reflective account of the work undertaken during the placement, including a critical evaluation of the experience gained and an action plan (30%).
-A longer report on some technical project/aspect within the placement, containing a significant amount of analysis, together with a critical appraisal of the work undertaken by the student (40%).

The total word count for both reports would typically be no more than 7,000 words in length (3000 reflective report and 4000 project report)

ALL ELEMENTS OF ASSESSMENT MUST BE PASSED.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The purpose of the module is to assess the work placement period which the student has undertaken in a relevant area within the Faculty. The placement should consist of a minimum of 150 hours.

The module, therefore, requires the student to undertake, within the total elapsed time of the placement, a structured piece of project work, relevant to the area of the faculty they are working in, which ensures that the learning outcomes are demonstrated.

The work will be tailored to the student’s needs whilst satisfying the placement area’s requirements. This will be negotiated between the placement manager (WBL Fellow) the student and his/her industrial supervisor.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Attendance at two seminars (Project Planning and Workplace Skills) will be part of the initial preparation strategy.
Evidence of an induction period in the chosen area of the faculty will be required.
Project work will be identified and agreed as indicated in Indicative Content.
A log book, or portfolio, of the students work will be maintained throughout the placement period.
Detailed reports will be prepared by the student and presentations, meetings etc will be undertaken as appropriate.

The use of appropriate library resources, and internet applications will be encouraged.
Learning from colleagues at work (discussion with colleagues) and working as part of a team are also important aspects of the learning strategy.
RESOURCES
Appropriate resources in the work place, internet, library access as required.
