Module Additional Assessment Details

Class test portfolio 30%. Learning outcomes 1, 3 and 4. Three short Blackboard class tests of maximum duration 20 minutes will be spread throughout the module. Questions will be related to on-line lecture material and will be selected at random from a suitable question bank. Each test will be machine marked to ensure timely feedback.

Assignment 70%. Develop an interactive multimedia system, typically 30MB maximum that requires you to use of a variety of specified media creation, editing and authoring tools assessing learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4. Normally the topic chosen should be relevant to the student's place of work or occupation.
Module Indicative Content
Sound and image capture.
Sound and image editing.
Linking and embedding graphics, sound and video into applications.
Introduction to HCI - Use of colour, typography, icons, basic design rules, user interfaces etc.
Design principles including storyboarding, navigation techniques.
Storage issues.
Uses of multimedia in commercial and entertainment environment.
Module Learning Strategies
On-line material will provide students with a broad overview of the indicative content and demonstrations of good practice in a variety of topics. Learning support material will be provided. The practical nature of the module is covered by practical tasks each week which will be suitable for the student to complete at home or in their place of work.

On-line, telephone and email support will be provided as necessary. Students will be welcome to visit their tutors at the University by arrangement but this will not be required.

Access to a PC and Internet connection.

Multimedia 'authoring tool' such as Multimedia Builder
Tools for editing/capturing digital sound and images.

Blackboard. Access to the on-line library and web-based resources.

Note: resources need to be available at home or in the workplace.
