Module Additional Assessment Details
The assignment will involve the creation of a practical artefact (a media showcase) supported by a report of 1500 words of design rationale / social legal requirements. The artefact will be CD / DVD based and consist of 5 screens. As an example it could be a showcase to promote a ficticious film that includes media of a poster, logo, 2D animation, several 3D models, video, coupled with interactive screens and features. By designing for CD / DVD student work can be media rich and detailed (Learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, and 4).
Module Indicative Content
Students will look at all elements of multimedia for CD or DVD at both design and implementation perspectives. Topics will include the following -

Overview of media Creation and Editing
Video editing and composition
Design of 2D characters and animation sequences
Developing and incorporating sound
2D representations such as logos, posters, and branding
Creation of 3D objects and characters
Legal, social, and ethical issues of media creation and distribution
Multimedia application types - mobile, desktop, web, CD and DVD
Evaluation and testing of multimedia interfaces

Module Learning Strategies
The module is taught as a weekly 3 hour lab over 9 weeks, which will contain mini-lectures to support the underlying knowledge and skills required to complete the module. Students will be encouraged to expand their knowledge in the area outside tutorial slots. Apart from teaching material students are also expected to use the lab sessions to show their progress and get regular feedback as to their assignments development.
