This module will address topics of:-
Uses and types of media on mobile devices for web and applications
Sensors for multimedia applications
Mobile web pages
Use of HTML / CSS to create mobile web applications
Comparison of native to browser based applications
Use of style sheets for mobile web applications
Offline API / Geolocation
Use of JavaScript frameworks to create applications effects
Wrappers to send HTML applications to the app stores
Design / User experience for mobile
Mobile gaming
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will create two related practical mobile artefacts consisting of a web application using current standards, and a mobile multimedia application (Learning Outcome 1). To support these two artefacts student's will write a supporting report section of 1500 words (being a literature review on an area of emerging technologies and standards for mobile web and multimedia, with practical insights to their own work) (Learning Outcome 2).
Module Learning Strategies
The module is taught as a 3 hour lab per week over 9 weeks, which will contain mini-lectures to support the underlying knowledge and skills required to complete the module. Students will be encouraged to expand their knowledge in the area outside tutorial slots.
