Module Learning Strategies
This module incorporates several inter-related learning strategies. The interactive learning groups will provide lectures and seminars involving a combination of group activities, student led work, simulations, skills practice, discussion etc. The independent study provides opportunity for reading, library based and online research. The remote learning in the professional practice work place will help develop professional skills.
Module Indicative Content
This module will enable students to understand the principles of working as a Christian youth worker working with and in schools with pupils age 13-19, and will provide the knowledge and understanding for such work.
This module will cover:
a) the historical development of schools and the influence of the church and individual Christians on the formation of education today
b) youth work approaches to education and personal development
c) an understanding of both formal and informal educational work
d) legal, ethical and practical implications of working in schools
Module Additional Assessment Details
You have been approached by a head teacher would like you to become involved in his school community. You are offered a choice of working in one of the following areas:
- the delivery of the RE curriculum in particular those aspects relating to the Christian faith.
- The creation and delivery of a programme of lunch time and after school clubs for students with a range of abilities
- Becoming part of the pastoral team in the school working in a mentoring, counseling or chaplaincy capacity
- Becoming a linked youth worker for the school providing support to those students who have become disaffected with school and are in danger of exclusion.
Choose one of the streams of work on offer and produce a 3000 word reflective account on the approach that you would take including reference to any relevant legislation or guidance. Include within your account an outline plan of your proposals that could be presented to the head teacher
