This module incorporates several inter-related learning strategies. The interactive learning groups will provide lectures and seminars involving a combination of group activities, student led work, simulations, skills practice, discussion etc. The independent study provides opportunity for reading, library based and online research. The remote learning in the professional practice work place will help develop professional skills.

This course will cover theories of authorship, dating, genre and context along with the significance of these theories for interpretation. Rigorous examination of the place of the book within the Biblical corpus as a whole will help students understand its contribution to wider themes within Biblical theology. To acquire coherent and detailed knowledge, students will critically evaluate current scholarly debates concerning exegetical issues within the books. Usually one Old Testament and one New Testament book will be studied to gain an understanding of the place of the books within the history of the church, and current patterns of interpretation.

100% Coursework: 3000 word exegesis of an agreed text, demonstrating the ability to critically reflect on its application to practice and links to relevant theory and alternative interpretations.
