INDICATIVE CONTENT
This 20-credit module will enable learners to understand the underlying context that children, young people and families are faced with under current policy/legislation. The learners will be able to understand the impact of policy and will use enquiry, analysis and application to recognise the strengths and weaknesses of policy and the challenges this can present when practicing in this sector. The module will use theoretical concepts and address policy processes for learner to comprehend policy and its complexities at a national and international level.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
This essay will link to:
LO 1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of uncertainty within the family policy framework;
LO 2. Compare and contrast a range of national and international policies in relation to children, young people and families;
LO 3. Analyse the concepts of policy and its implementation.
This assignment will require students to undertake a review of an aspect of current national and international policy in relation to families and children; they will evaluate these policies, considering the impact on practice and consideration for future policy recommendations.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (30 hours)
You will attend lectures or workshops on key topics. There will also be opportunities to participate in small groups to explore some of the key issues raised in lectures and undertake activities. This will include scenarios, groups discussions/debates and presentations. You will also be asked to take part in peer review which will further support the giving and receiving of constructive feedback.
Guided Independent Study: (170 hours)
100 hours: Independent reading - You will be expected to read the recommended reading and utilise the learning materials which you will have full access to via Blackboard.
70 hours: Essay preparation - you will need to undertake the necessary research and analysis to complete your essay. You will be expected to have made use of the relevant library resources/web-based sites to identify relevant academic texts/ journal articles.
