Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
You will examine the evidence base for working with adults, including:
- The impact of social factors on patterns of need, vulnerability, resilience, risk, mental health, ageing and substance use.
- The impact of a range of professional adult/advocacy interventions.

You will learn about the role and functions of supporting adults, including making referrals, support planning and direct work with service users.

You will examine your role in contributing to adult safeguarding, including preventative work, recognition and identification of abuse, decision-making (incl. best interests decision making) and intervention including revising and building your knowledge on legislative framework under the Care Act 2014 (Section 1 - Promoting wellbeing).

You will consider strategies for involving and empowering service users to ensure their voice is heard.

Multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working in the context of work with adults will be explored, including exploration of the role and relationship with key partners: health, housing and third sector.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
The assignment will link to:

LO. 2 Evaluate contemporary safeguarding issues for adults, considering the evidence-based assessment methods for effective intervention.
LO. 3 Explain the concepts of partnership with other professionals and empowerment in safeguarding adults.

This assignment will involve you exploring the current landscape of adult safeguarding and how this is put into practice - you will look at key ideas here including empowerment.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (30 hours)

You will attend lectures on key topics. There will also be opportunities to participate in small groups to explore some of the key issues raised in lectures and undertake practical activities (scenario based). In addition, we will also use simulation using our university service users to explore how we effectively safeguard adults. You will also be asked to take part in peer review which will further support the giving and receiving of constructive feedback.

Guided Independent Study: (170 hours)

100 hours: Independent reading - You will be expected to read the recommended reading and utilise the learning materials which you will have full access to via Blackboard.

70 hours: Assignment preparation - you will need to undertake the necessary research and analysis to respond to this task. You will be expected to have made use of the relevant library resources/web-based sites to identify relevant academic texts/ journal articles.
