INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module aims to develop learners’ skills of independent enquiry and critical analysis. This module is designed to develop learners’ understanding and confidence in the use of techniques and methods appropriate for research with children, young people and families. Learners will be expected to consider the elements that make up formal research, including the proposal, and methodologies.
Learners will also consider ethical aspects of research with children, young people and families. The topic of the research proposal is dependent on the learner’s focus of interest within the context of their programme of study and experience with children, young people and families.

For this module students are required to produce a research proposal on an area of their own choice relating to practise with Children, Young People and Families. The research proposal will consist of a short literature review into the topic, a discussion around methodology and consideration of ethical issues related to conducting the piece of research with children, young people and families.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (30 hours)
You will attend lectures on key topics. There will also be opportunities to participate in small groups to explore some of the key issues raised in lectures and undertake activities.
Guided Independent Study: (170 hours)
100 hours: Independent reading - You will be expected to read the recommended reading and utilise the learning materials which you will have full access to via Blackboard.
70 hours: Development of research idea and research proposal.

These skills will support the learner's ability to conduct research in the sector with children, young people and families.
