INDICATIVE CONTENT
n this module, students will investigate some of the commonly researched contributory factors that can lead to difficulties for families and children, reviewing possible outcomes where intervention is lacking or ineffective. They will also learn to reflect upon approaches taken within their role as well as ways that organisations in working with children, young people and families. As a result of studying this unit, the student will develop skills and knowledge to develop as a reflective practitioner in their role in work with children, young people and families.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
The assessment documents give opportunities to:
LO. 1 Analyse factors that can lead to healthy functioning family.
LO. 2 Compare and contrast current strategies and theoretical principles aimed at supporting early intervention in work with children and families.
LO. 3 Apply a range of approaches to conflict management.
This module utilises simulation as the core method of delivering this assessment. Students will undertake a simulated initial assessment of a family in crisis and will develop an intervention plan which will consider the following elements:
1. Any additional referrals required.
2. Any appropriate conflict management strategies.
3. They will provide a written commentary on why the above referral and strategies are appropriate.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (30 hours)
You will attend lectures on key topics. There will also be opportunities to participate in small groups to explore some of the key issues raised in lectures and undertake activities.
Guided Independent Study: (170 hours)
100 hours: Independent reading - You will be expected to read the recommended reading and utilise the learning materials which you will have full access to via Blackboard.
35 hours: preparation for the simulated assessment and intervention planning exercise.
35 hours to prepare for viva voce discussing assessment, intervention plan and methods of conflict management used.

In this module learners will be given opportunities to look at some of the difficult issues that children, young people and families can face. Learners will develop skills to assist families to deal with conflict and some of the behaviours that can arise in the family, with the aim of trying to resolve these situations as early as possible.
