Module Learning Strategies
Workshops (One and a half hours per week) will enable students to explore the relationship between the director and the actor and the challenges involved in the production of short extracts of differing styles of text. Students will follow a systematic technical process from week to week, building to a final showing of the work studied. Early workshops will examine the "art" of directing and acting from a historical viewpoint by studying past approaches that have influenced or inform the present. The extracts will be presented in "blacks" at the end of the Semester.
Module Indicative Content
This module will involve students in the study and practice of directing actors in theatre plays. Students will understand the disciplines and techniques required of both the director and the actor to achieve the best possible outcome to final performance. Students will learn the professional approach to the rehearsal and production processes covering varying styles of theatre from naturalism to absurdism; from Epic theatre to Shakespeare.
