The Blackboard virtual learning environment will be available (where relevant) to support this module. Details will be supplied in the module handbook.

Lectures (1 hr) will explore theories of light and sound design as scenography and give instruction in technical and stage management techniques and methodologies.
Workshops (2 hrs) will consist of practical training in the use and application of theatre technology, lighting and sound design software and stage-management exercises.
Independent practical sessions (scheduled for 2hrs) will give the students scheduled unsupervised access to studio technical facilities and give them the opportunity to practice and experiment with theatre equipment and software.
Written assignments will require students to contextualise their practical work in relation to theoreticians in this field and analyse texts for an assessed portfolio.
Parts of the module will be delivered by visiting professional theatre practitioners.

This module is designed to give students a specialist detailed knowledge and understanding of professional stage lighting, sound and stage management equipment, software and techniques and practical experience in the use of technical theatre equipment and facilities. The first semester will concentrate on technical and practical skills, the second semester will give the students an understanding of key developments in lighting and sound design concepts and will give them an opportunity use design software, work with state-of-the art technical equipment.The module will also incorporate Health and Safety training related to the rigging and safe use of electrical equipment.

2nd Semester Essay (1500 words) 25% (LO 3)
2nd Semester Portfolio 25% (LO's 2,3) consisting of ,-
Script Analysis, Cue synopsis or prompt script, practical assignment report, 2 x Health and Safety certificates.
