Fulfilment of general assessment criteria for practical work (see Award Handbook)

This module will involve you in the study of a play and then the rehearsal and performance of that play. You will study the professional theatre approach to the rehearsal and production process including directing, acting and production and technical roles (i.e. stage management, lighting design and operation, setting and costume design and implementation, sound design and operation and publicity and marketing). The module will include technical and dress rehearsals and performances of the play before an audience.

Students will undertake through rehearsal and workshop sessions the development and realisation of a full-length play (or double bill) A production schedule will be prepared and students will move from a polished 'reading' presentation of the play (assessed) to a first staged 'run-through' (on the book, assessed) to a second stage 'run-through' (off the book, assessed) and then final technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals leading to a public presentation. Students will be expected to rehearse independently outside of timetabled contact hours.
