Module Learning Strategies
Preliminary workshops will provide a practical overview of the module and will introduce students to key methodologies, techniques and exercises specific to physical theatre methodologies. The module will be taught via practical exploration and theoretical study will be underpinned by practice. There will be a key emphasis on the collaborative nature of physical theatre and on the health and safety implications of this kind of work.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Group performance, 80% [LO 1, 3, 4]
45 minutes in length
Theoretical research portfolio, 20% [LO 2, 3]

Module Indicative Content
This module will develop the ability of students to explore beyond verbal narrative, using their body to produce an inter-disciplinary piece of theatre which will include a range of: music, theatre, dance, mime, and visual art. Students will challenge the traditional performer/audience relationship through the use of space and the physical text. Students will engage in three specific contexts:
1. A critical analysis of key works by companies and practitioners
2. Specific methodologies of training and making, including physiology and massage, mime, tableau and contact improvisation
3. The production of an original ensemble work that incorporates physical and visual elements that shows imaginative detail and appropriate interpretation of physical theatre techniques and demonstrates effective collaborative imagery.
