An electronic portfolio containing:

A programmed lighting plot
A programmed sound plot

This module is intended to provide understanding and skills in the programming of digital lighting and sound systems for the theatre. The module will train the students to set up, plot and operate a computerised digital theatre sound desk and a computerised digital lighting board to professional industry standards.

Students will attend weekly practical workshops.

There will be four lighting-control training sessions and four sound-control training sessions over a semester period of eight weeks.

Each session will contain two hours of teaching, learning and application.

There will then be four follow-up one-hour tutorials that will provide formative feedback and support the students undertaking enquiry-based assignment tasks.

Students will also have scheduled access to control equipment and/or software for independent study and their assignment work.

NOTE - Students will be able to practice their programming skills during their independent study hours and later apply those skills as part of their assessment work. This work, however, will be carried out using offline editing software in virtual environments - students will not need to work with actual stage lighting rigs or sound amplification and playback equipment.
