INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module focuses on the voice and its potential for the work on the screen and the microphone. You will test your practical based work and experience in depth the principles of acting for the microphone. You will train to relax in front of and position yourself in relation to the microphone. You will be taught how to ‘change’ and place your voice to perform different parts. You will develop your diction, pronunciation, enunciation and intonation skills and you will be taught breathing techniques for a smooth performance and ‘silent breathing (inhaling and exhaling)’ for the microphone.
The aim of the module is to enable you to become an innovative and creative individual in the workplace. It will allow you to understand the main practical issues in relation to acting in front of the microphone and provide you with the ability to adapt effectively and timely in the studio. The course will be divided in five main areas:
Commercials voice over techniques
Animation voice/dubbing techniques
Live-action voice/dubbing techniques
Voice over documentary techniques
Voice over internal monologue/narration techniques
The student will focus on:
An overview of the existing field and the current practices
The physiology of the voice
Breathing
Inhaling and exhaling in front of the microphone
Commercials voice over techniques
Animation voice/dubbing techniques
Live-action voice/dubbing techniques
Voice over documentary techniques
Voice over internal monologue/narration techniques

Assessment 1: Films will be accompanied by a script in the language of the performance and appropriate translation and subtitles in English if not performed in English
Assessment 2: presentation and visual guides/work book will be done in English
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The module will employ a range of learning strategies, including:
Tutor led tutorials on dubbing and voice-over. Tutor and professional led workshops in the studio to address issues and concerns pertinent to the development of the practical projects.
A range of learning strategies will be used to share practices and inform and develop independent projects of each student and the individual project for the assessment.
Guided Independent Learning will be structured around the use of VLE to support reading around theory of vocal work and the interactions of voice and technology.
Guided Independent Learning through digital resources such as custom-made webinars will be used to enhance learning around the use of voice with technology.
Further Guided Independent Learning will be scheduled as self-led ensemble working rehearsals for practice-based project work.
