INDICATIVE CONTENT
Weekly sessions:
Introductions early mathematical and early literacy acquisition with links to theoretical perspectives. This will cover curricula and strategies used within early childcare settings and schools. Strategies and approaches to literacy and numeracy will also be explained and applied, such as phonics and numicon.
Block week:
A series of innovative teaching sessions will take place over the week across both literacy and numeracy, these will include
X1 planning active numeracy with young children
X1 planning active literacy with young children
X1 play based literacy and numeracy
X1 developing and planning the learning environment to enhance literacy and numeracy
X1 promoting literacy and numeracy in outdoor learning
LEARNING STRATEGIES
University workshops will draw upon your school experience and help you to interpret that experience in the light of current thinking on teaching, learning, assessment and schooling in relation to literacy and numeracy. You will also be asked to use the ideas explored in the sessions in planning your future work. You will also be asked to collaborate with others in preparing and presenting your work.
There will be a complementary series of workshops within a block week. In these workshops, senior colleagues, guest lecturers and vocational experts will introduce you to different subjects.
A further 228 hours of independent study will require you to take responsibility for relating the issues addressed in this module to your personal experience and building up evidence in your portfolio. Your school mentor and university tutor will support you in this process.

Assessment Details
Made up in three parts:
An evaluation of a literacy learning activity which has been developed and led with learners. This will identify, in relation to curriculum and theory, how the activity has been approached, taught and assessed to show progression. Assesses Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 (at 50%)
An evaluation of a numeracy learning activity which has been developed and led with learners. This will identify, in relation to curriculum and theory, how the activity has been approached, taught and assessed to show progression. Assesses Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 (at 50%)
A 500 word REFLECTION of a literacy or numeracy display which has been designed and implemented within the setting (at 0%).
