Module Indicative Content
This module aims to provide learners with further understanding of the key theories, research, policy and legislation and the impact that these have on the approaches, provision and curriculum for those with learning disabilities.

It will raise the awareness of trainees of the Application of new professional standards for teachers, tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector (2010).

You will analyse, interpret and reflect on specialist research, including the concept of inclusive learning. You will analyse current legal requirements, national policies and guidance on the promotion of the rights and well-being of learners with cognitive learning difficulties. You will gain understanding of the impact of policy and regulatory frameworks on the provision for disabled learners and the factors that influence their curriculum provision. You will evaluate how this impacts on your own practice.

You will analyse social and cultural attitudes and beliefs to disability and how these influence learning opportunities. You will reflect on the challenges involved in the implementation of a whole organisational approach to inclusive learning, analysing the impact of your own beliefs, assumptions and attitudes on professional practice.

You will analyse how current approaches to communication and language development are applied to learning and teaching for those with cognitive learning disabilities. You will evaluate how generic and individual risk assessments inform the curriculum.
