Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategies will require students to commit 300 learning hours of which 60 hours will consist of contact time and 240 independent study hours.
The teaching strategies will employ a range of methods, including lectures, seminars, one to one tutorials, practice presentations and case study observations. Peer group discussion and the use of Blackboard will allow students to share ideas and experiences and will encourage reflection and evaluation.
Module Indicative Content
This module provides the opportunity for students to develop their understanding of key issues in working with young people, adolescents and adult, focusing in particular on how these relate to their need and key elements of practice.
Students will examine issues facing this section of society and contemporary debates such as drugs, identities, youth cultures, generation gaps, racism, peer pressure and risky behaviour.
Students will recognise the needs of this age group including relationships, communication, love, achievement, acceptance, voice, belonging, marital discord, juggling home and study commitments and bereavement.
The module will examine beliefs, values and attitudes underpinning work with this age group and how this will affect teaching and learning strategies.
