Module Indicative Content
Planning for teaching lessons will highlight dangers. Practical workshop worktime that will allow Associates to practice skills and examine risks adn implent risk assessment procedures. Examination of current legislation and recommendations for Health and Safety in Schools. Design and Technology association (DATA) recognised training and accreditation.
Module Learning Strategies
Analysis of layout, signage, machinery, tools, safety equipment, first aid, supervision, long term and short term risks, material choices and any other factors that can influence the safe environment that should be present in a school workshop or laboratory. Familiarity with current legislation and recommended good practice documents. Examination of school and department policies for Health and Safety issues and how they apply legislation. Planning for teaching that reflects good practice, legal requirements and placement school policies for Health and Safety.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A 2500 word assignment, which will examine Health and Safety Issues. (100%) This will assess Learning Outcomes 1-3.
Pass Critieria;
- Systematically gather and comment on primary reserach
- Sytematically gather and comment on secondary research
- Process or activity selected, main risks identified and a range of procedures suggested to reduce risks.
- Areas of good practice highlighted, Health and Safety concerns to all D & T staff documents and the fundamental recommendations for future planning are recorded.
Distinction Crteria;
- Systematically gather and comment in detail on all points of primary reserach from a wide variety of sources.
- Systematically gather and comment in detail on all points of secondary research from a wide variety of sources that include all relevant statutory documents.
- Process or activity selected, all risks identified and a wide range of imaginative procedures suggested to reduce risks.
- Areas of good practice thoroughly highlighted, Health and Safety concerns to all D & T staff well documented with good justifications and extensive recommendations for future planning are recorded.
