Module Details
Module Indicative Content
Range of transferable skills within the two activity areas that could lead to broader learning across different individual games or events. Individual skills and techniques leading to small group and eventually full sided versions of several games. Planning for teaching lessons and of using monitoring and observable assessment of ability to make decisions about lesson planning. Range of assessment forms and how best to use these. Material will highlight potential dangers and risks to be avoided in games and athletic activities. Practical workshop time that will allow associates to practise skills and examine risks and implement risk assessment procedures. Examination of current legislation and recommendations for health and Safety in schools (e.g. British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education (BAALPE) safety book). Range of sports and events that comprise the two activity areas and how delivery might be adapted to meet the current attainment target. Association for Physical Education (AfPE) recognised training and accreditation. Range of awards to compliment PGCE course content. (e.g. National Governing Body (NGB) awards)
Module Learning Strategies
Range of practical workshops to cover the generic skills of the two separate activity areas. Related awards from governing bodies to reinforce and expand upon subject knowledge. For track and field athletics, several officiating experiences in local schools events. Opportunities to officiate in a range of games during the two placements. Familiarity with current legislation and recommended good practice documents. Examination of school and department policies for Health and Safety issues and how they apply any regional or national legislation. Planning for teaching that reflects good practice, strong subject knowledge and any recommended legal requirements and placement school policies, for Health and Safety.

A further 123 hours of independent study will require you to take responsibility for relating the issues addressed in this module to your personal experience and building up evidence in your portfolio. Your Subject Mentor and Course Tutor will support you in this process.

Module Additional Assessment Details
Learning outcomes will be assessed through:
A 2000 word assignment, which will examine the design and use of school and national assessment materials within the subject. Externally a range of National Governing Body awards and related certificates to compliment teaching and officiating in these areas. Assesses learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.
