Module Indicative Content
Managing files and processing information using ICT; ICT in preparing resources and keeping records; Information handling with databases; modelling; Using ICT for communication; CD ROMs; Using the Internet; Measures of students' ICT capability - National Curriculum, GNVQ, key skills; available courseware for Design & Technology education; reference sources and professional expertise for ICT in Design & Technology education; health, legal and ethical issues in ICT; ICT and learning in Design & Technology education. The module will relate to the ITT National Curriculum for the use of ICT in subject teaching to the teaching of design and technology in the secondary phase.

The PGCE programme does not allow opportunity to combine this module with any modue not contained within this award.

ICT workshops developing personal ICT skills through practical applications and lesson planning for Design & Technology education; presentations on issues in ICT in Design & Technology education; presentations by associate teachers; accessing information via the Internet; reviewing ICT applications.

Module Additional Assessment Details
Learning outcomes will be assessed by:
a portfolio of evidence of attainment against criteria derived from DfEE requirements (100%) which will assess Learning Outcomes 1-4.

Pass criteria

manages files and input/output procedures
can design appropriate ICT classroom tasks for Design & Technology education
knows of and makes some use of a range of sources of information and professional advice via ICT
familiar with National Curriculum requirements
familiar with health, legal and ethical issues in ICT

Distinction criteria

confidently uses file management procedures and able to link software packages
demonstrates good discernment in selection of ICT use in the classroom, able to plan for progression in ICT skills and plans ICT use with a clear grasp of learning principles
makes good use of information sources available through ICT and able to participate in professional discussion
