INDICATIVE CONTENT
The purpose of this module is to provide students with an opportunity to consider the organisation, leadership and management of children's education and care settings in the UK. Topics studied will include an understanding of the theory of organisational structure, developing an awareness of possible future development in leadership, an understanding of government influence on children's education and care settings and the importance of relevant legislation. Students will be expected to understand current issues related to collaborative and co-operative working in a multi-agency/multi professional workforce. In addition the module will provide understanding of current legislation and policy se within an historical and hierarchical imperative. Students will identify how the trend towards privatisation of services has affected settings and debate Government demands for career paths for professional status and entrepreneurship in the light of their own abilities and experiences of management/ leadership within a children's education and care team.

1. DEMONSTRATE SYSTEMATIC UNDERSTANDING OF A RANGE OF MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP APPROACHES. CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE MANAGEMENT OF CHANGE AND ITS EFFECT UPON MORALE AND MOTIVATION, INCLUDING THE IMPORTANCE OF RECENT LEGISLATION.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
The Learning strategies will require students to commit 300 learning hours of which 40 hours will consist of contact time.
The teaching strategies will employ a range of methods, including lectures, seminars, one to one tutorials and case study observation. Peer group discussion will allow students to share ideas and experiences.
Lectures (20 x 2 hrs) provide students with a broad theoretical overview leadership, team work and multi-professional communication.
RESOURCES
Multimedia classroom resources, learning resource centre, internet, journals and access to tutor.
