Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
In this module the tutor will support each student to identify a suitable professional topic for critical evaluation. A variety of learning and teaching methods are used in class such as presentations, group discussions, case studies, problem based learning activities and participant centred investigations, in order to support students to conduct a critical evaluation of a topic of their choice. There is a strong emphasis on activity-focused learning and participants are expected to actively engage in all sessions. In addition, participants are required to engage in independent study so as to consolidate and build upon their learning in taught sessions. This takes the form of undertaking follow-up tasks and reading key texts and research papers.

Module Indicative Content
This module presents the core issues, strategies and techniques required when designing and conducting a small-scale education research project. It facilitates students' reflection upon their current practice to help them identify an issue that is worthy of further study and that will help them develop their practice in a specific area. It also supports them to access and gain insight from relevant texts. Finally, the module supports students to systematically interpret the findings from their study and to turn these into clear recommendations for improving practice. It is crucial that participants on this module gain tutor approval of their topic choice before they design and conduct the study.
