ASSESSMENT DETAILS
There are two elements to the assessment:
1. A Mid-Semester Class Test length (1 hour) (40%) (LO 1, 2 & 3)
In this module you will keep a portfolio of Information Technology knowledge, which will be assessed in a mid-semester class test.
2. An Exam (2 hours) (60%). (LO 1, 2 & 3).
The exam will assess your knowledge and understanding of key ideas/concepts/principles in information technology.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module will cover aspects of the following:
Introduction to information technology: Timeline and history.
The hardware/software components of a computer system, such as storage, I/O and etc.
Application software, the Internet and the World Wide Web.
Introduction to operating systems and utility programs.
Communications and networks.
Introduction to database management
Computer security and safety, ethics, and privacy.
Information system development.
Programming languages and program development.
Enterprise computing.
Computer careers and certification.

1. Explain contemporary Information Technology in which professional work occurs.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
The module presents contextual and explanatory material, together with recommended reading and research in lectures. The content of the lectures introduces and explores a range of information technology concepts/ideas/principles that are presented and discussed in tutorials. Lecture and tutorial based learnings are complemented by assessed formative exercises.
