1. Listening Test (50 minutes, 50%, learning outcomes 1, 2)
The listening test with be based on general, business and professional themes similar to those covered in class.

2. Reading Test (60 minutes, 50%, learning outcomes 1, 4)
The reading test will be based on general, business and professional themes similar to those covered in class.


INDICATIVE CONTENT

This module will help you to develop all four basic language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing, whilst preparing you for further study in the area of your chosen discipline. It will enhance your linguistic skills and subject knowledge through topic-based study in areas of a general but business specific nature.

1. Listening skills
Grasp much of the content of general and professional discourse

2. Speaking skills
Participate in oral business communication following, for example, simulated role-play or case-study type scenarios such as job interviews, presentations, meetings, negotiations and discussions.


3. Reading skills
Scan articles, textbooks, etc. to grasp the main topic of texts, extract relevant information and form judgements about their purpose and usefulness.

4. Writing skills
The module enables you to communicate in writing in different styles appropriate for different contexts at an advanced level and to select the most salient and relevant ideas from your subject field and its literature and represent them clearly in writing.

CRITICALLY EVALUATE A RANGE OF WRITTEN AND AURAL INPUTS IN GENERAL AND BUSINESS ENVIRONMENTS AND RESPOND APPROPRIATELY IN SPOKEN AND WRITTEN FORM.
