Module Learning Strategies
Lectures (12 hours) & tutorials (12 hours) to support indicative content. Student-centered laboratory based practical work (12 hours) and written work.
Module Indicative Content
Analogue Electronics: Class A and Class AB discrete power amplifier design. Feedback and its effect on gain & impedance. Multi-stage circuits. Op-amp circuit design and analysis - multi-pole filters, comparators, instrumentation amplifiers. Analogue simulation software & device modelling. Power electronic devices - thryistor, triac, SCR.
Digital Electronics: Combinational logic, basic laws of logic, truth tables, Karnaugh Maps, minterms & maxterms, Q-M algorithm, MSI devices- adders, muxs, decoders. Programmable logic devices - PROM, PLA, PAL. Sequential logic, memory elements, design & analysis of Finite State Machines & Counters.
Module Additional Assessment Details
One formal report based on laboratory work to include assessment of log-book of all laboratory work , to assess learning outcomes 1, 2 & 3 (50%)
One 2-hour final examination to assess learning outcomes 1, 2 & 3 (50%)
