Module Additional Assessment Details
Coursework 30% - Practical work and reports equivalent to 1000-1500 words which will assess Learning Outcomes 3 and 4.
Exam 2 hours 70% which will assess Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3.
Module Indicative Content
- Power system over voltages: Insulation co-ordination, origin and characteristics of power system over voltages, transient over voltages generation and protection.
- Transmission lines, 3-phase transformers supplying unbalanced loads through transmission lines, voltage distribution of insulator sting, string efficiency.
- Load flow studies: Gauss Seidel method of power flow studies, modelling of power system loads, voltage calculations, computer methods, transformer tap changing.
- Medium voltage and low voltage distribution systems: Typical MV and LV systems, system voltages, conductor dimension, overhead networks, underground networks, load transfer.
Module Learning Strategies
Lectures / laboratory experiments / tutorials (36 hours) will form the main teaching activities (1:20)
