Module Indicative Content
Power semiconductor devices: Static and Dynamic Characteristics, loss mechanisms, thermal aspects, heat sink selection, interfacing control electronics with power devices.

Naturally commutated converters: Single phase and three phase converter topologies, operation with passive and active loads, inverter operation, and qualitative treatment of overlap.

Self Commutated Converters: basic concepts, pulsewidth modulation, application to motor drives and power systems.

Waveform Distortion: Power electronic sources of waveform distortion, Displacement and Distortion factors.

Technical report (30%) 1000 words based on simulation work which will assess learning outcome 3

End of Semester examination 2 hours (70%) which will asses learning outcomes 1 and 2
