Module Indicative Content
1. Automotive Applications for Digital Control: cruise control-generator control; idle speed control; knock control; lambda control; throttle position control; vehicle lateral control
2. Control of Multivariable Systems: state-space methods; controller design by pole placement; Riccati design; state observers; Kalman-Filter
3. Non-linear and Digital Control: representation of non-linear control systems; continuous time systems; discrete time systems (Tustin etc.); MIMO-systems (state variable feedback design etc.); observers (including time delay); Dead Beat Controller
4. System Analysis and Requirement Definition: specification of a new system developed step by step; understanding the physical behaviour by system analysis and modelling, methods and tools to define requirements, defining a system concept, test of the system performance.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An examination (2 hours in length) weighted at 50% assessing learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3.
An assignment weighted at 50% assessing learning outcomes 2 and 4.
