Module Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge of management and business practices, their limitations, and how these may be applied in the context of the specialisation at the forefront of professional practice.

2. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and critical evaluation of methodologies and techniques relevant to legal requirements governing engineering practice, including health and safety, contract, intellectual property rights, product safety and liability issues.

3. Ability to demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge to generate an innovative design for products, systems, components or processes to fulfil new needs.

4. Complete a competence mapping exercise to determine the aims which need to be addressed and the difference between current competence and CEng standards set out in UK-SPEC and the chosen Professional Engineering Institution (PEI).

Module Indicative Content
Exposure to a range of project management techniques, which enable you to successfully manage complex technical projects. Application of a range of project management techniques to formulate a comprehensive work plan for your future MSc work-based project.

Project planning and processes, scheduling, costing, benefits, priorities, stakeholders, management structure, implementation, monitoring, project closure and reflection and celebration.

Review of the Engineering Council UK-SPEC competences and Professional Engineering Institutions. Assessment of own achieved competences against UK-SPEC.

Exposure to a range of transferable skills such as oral and written presentation as well as digital communication.
Module Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered over a single semester.
A maximum of 12 hours of contact time will be used.
Directed reading and learning.
VLE meeting room.
VLE learning community.
Information gathering (Internet, books, technical articles, company literature, etc.)
Discussions with experts in Industry and University.
Use of existing software packages (business, word-processing, database, project scheduling, etc.)
Report writing, incl. feedback on drafts.
Preparation of oral presentation.
Presentation and defence of work at seminar.
This will be supported by 138 hours of independent study where you will have the opportunity to research background information related to the delivery of the core material and to work on your learning contract and project management reports, as well as preparing your presentation and interview session.

1. Written Project Management Report (3,000 words) based on a negotiated current engineering programme 70% assessing LO 1-3, 5.

2. 30-min Presentation and Interview 30% assessing LO 1-3, 5 (Final assessment).
