Module Indicative Content
A strong historical emphasis will form the basis of the organisation for this module. Its aim is to familiarise students with the periods of modern English literature and draw attention to some of the central themes and issues arising. In this way the module aims at developing the skills involved in close reading and essay writing. It introduces the main literary forms, key terms and methods of analysis, critical debates on issues of text and context and seminal theoretical approaches to literary study. Students will have intensive training in how to write university level essays in literary criticism.

Students will have to use the Blackboard online system as part of this module for a self-assessment plagiarism exercise, for group and tutor interaction, for submitting work, and downloading assignment questions.
