Module Indicative Content
The first half of the module will introduce students to the major elements of line editing, proofreading, narrative transposition and adaptation. The second half of the module will concern diversity in writing narratives which will be focussed on the activity of making a magazine in groups. Not only is this an opportunity to apply the editing skills learned in the first half of the module, but a chance to develop expertise and flexibility in a variety of short-form narratives, for example, news writing, feature articles, travel writing, poetry. Via practical workshops, students will learn how to compile a magazine and understand the conventions of the industry.
Module Learning Strategies
There will be a programme of twelve three-hour editorial workshops and tutorials related editing practice. Students will be expected to prepare for classes by reading of both the primary and set secondary reading.

Module Additional Assessment Details
Practical Task: 20% online-editing, proofreading and narrative transposition. [LO: 1, 4]
Magazine Project: 80% two single-authored pieces from a list of appropriate genres [40 marks] (e.g. feature article, news story, poem) and a groupwork element [20 marks] (format, contents, design, cover). [LO 1, 2, 3, 4]
