Module Indicative Content
The module provides for students to experience working with NGO host organisations involved in sustainable development initiatives. They will engage in undertaking a mutually-agreed research report which investigates the work of the host NGO in furthering sustainable development initiatives principles. The research could investigate selected aspects of specific projects undertaken by the NGO, but may also involve assessments of the host NGO?s organisational development, governance, capacity to become a `learning organisation? and relationships with other `actors? and institutions in furthering sustainable development.

One 3500 word report (1,2, 3)

Pass criteria
You will demonstrate a sound awareness and understanding of the subject matter. Assignment is expressed reasonably and coherently. Work is academically sound, evidencing focussed observations and acknowledging key questions. There is evidence of sound reading and thorough critical analysis of the available literature.

Distinction criteria
You will demonstrate an excellent awareness and understanding of the subject matter. Assignment are well argued and excellently organized. Work is academically excellent, evidencing perceptiveness, insight and demonstrating creativity and originality. There is evidence of excellent reading, systematic review and thorough critical meta-analysis of the available literature.

Host-related research is arranged to accommodate student and supervisor as well as host, and may entail either a concentrated three week block or a more extended period such as one day per week for fifteen weeks. As part of the module students should keep a research diary to aid reflection of the work place experience, and inform the final report.
