Module Additional Assessment Details
Individual personal development plan, length 1000 words, weighted at 40% addressing Learning outcomes 1 and 2.
Showreel or portfolio weighted at 60% addressing Learning outcome 3.
Module Indicative Content
The emphasis of learning will be on development of the business skills necessary to operate as a freelancer in film and television.
In the course students will gain knowledge of:
1. Conditions of freelance employment (contracts)
2. Budgetary and accounting issues (VAT, self assessment)
3. Ways of identifying employment opportunities (interview techniques, pitching)
4. The preparation of self-promotion materials (CV portfolio, showreel)
Module Learning Strategies
12 x 1hr lectures, 6 X 2hr practical sessions, 12 hours of tutorials
Practical sessions supporting lectures will underpin the development of the underlying skills and knowledge required to complete the module and prepare for employment as a freelancer. Delivery will be supported by handouts, case studies and by visiting guest lecturers.
