ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment 1: Creative Portfolio
You will produce an audio and television production portfolio demonstrating practical techniques and creative decision-making for a clearly defined target audience. The project will evidence your understanding of broadcast media as creative communication, including appropriate use of studio, location, and post-production workflows. You may work across roles such as planning, recording, directing, editing, or sound design, using professional equipment safely and effectively to create content aligned with contemporary media platforms.
Assessment 2: Reflection
You will submit a reflective journal either as a 1200 word written report or a 5-6 mins verbal presentation evaluating the development of your production project. This reflection should address your production role(s), skills development, creative and technical decision-making, and audience considerations. You will identify strengths, challenges, and actions for maintaining and improving your practice in future audio and television production contexts.
A choice of submission is:
Option 1: a 1,200-word written report or
Option 2: 5-6 mins verbal presentation
Formative Assessment:
Midway formative feedback will be embedded within practical sessions, providing structured opportunities for feedback on work-in-progress to support student development and progression.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
- This module introduces an exploration of the key practices and concepts of audio and television production in professional studio spaces.
- You will be making programmes and extracts to demonstrate your understanding of broadcast media as creative communication outputs, and the different production roles that contribute to the construction of content.
- The focus will be on learning about the practical techniques and crafting skills to create storytelling audio and visual content to connect with audiences and designed to reflect contemporary creative media practice within the industries, such as the use of social media, podcasting and creating downloadable content for programming.
- You will undertake technical training to effectively use professional audio and television production equipment safely and creatively, alongside studio and post-production techniques to produce professional content for audiences.
- Practical exercises will allow you to examine the changing presence of creative media, challenging new concepts of audio and visual collaborations.

Why are live and pre-recorded creative media content so attractive to viewers? What maintains the attention of listeners and viewers? Television and audio content continues to attract and challenge different audiences through different platforms and listening/viewing practices. Through exploring the key concepts of television and audio-based production, you will produce content to demonstrate your understanding of the visual and sound-based properties, as well as understanding the production roles which contribute to effective outputs. This includes learning about the practical techniques of production within professional studio spaces.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Workshops will include a range of learning strategies such as presentations, discussions, debates, and small group related activities, including evaluative focused work. You will be expected to take advantage of the extensive library facilities, including Box of Broadcasts (BoB). Independent study activities to include practice-based tasks, research, group meetings, independent study in support of your project work. Technical Instruction (TI) sessions will form part of your learning to support the practical application of your creative ideas.
