Learning Strategies
3 x 2 hour lectures followed by workshops, tutorials, problem solving exercises and practical participation in the production of major collaborative projects using laboratory equipment and editing facilities.

Assessment 1: Assignment Practical
Undertake practical studio exercises demonstrating own skills development, leading to a collaborative film soundtrack. Weighted at 50% and addressing Learning Outcomes 1 & 3

Assessment 2: Coursework Review
Report evaluating your own and your peers' contributions to the making of a film and its soundtrack (typically 1500 words) weighted at 50% addressing Learning Outcomes 2 & 4
Indicative Content
This module requires students to develop understanding of technical sound recording and manipulation techniques and report on them prior to undertaking an individual role in the production of collaborative drama. In the course they will gain knowledge of,

1. Sound recording techniques for drama
2. Sound mixing and manipulation techniques
3. The importance of a properly constructed soundtrack
4. The importance of sound in relation to genre.
5. How audio affects the theme and tempo of a film
6. The importance of music in the creation of a soundtrack
7. The practical production of a soundtrack for a drama
8. Team-working in a collaborative process

This module prioritises work-based learning around the participation in production of corporate films for live clients. Through this module students will undertake work-placement with a corporate production company, while demonstrating a clear understanding of the codes and conventions of current practice in corporate film production. They will demonstrate understanding of professional practices in a working environment and demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills when working in a corporate environment. Over the duration of the module the student will demonstrate the practical skills required for the production of corporate film production and will show management skills when working in a corporate environment. The ability to take instruction and to work effectively as part of a team, and demonstrate skills of leadership when working as part of a team will also be a factor in the module.
