Indicative Content
The emphasis of learning will be on development of the business skills necessary to operate as a freelancer in film and television. In the course students will gain knowledge of;
1. Conditions of freelance employment (contracts)
2. Budgetary and accounting issues (VAT, self-assessment)
3. Ways of identifying employment opportunities (interview techniques, pitching)
4. The preparation of self-promotion materials (CV, Portfolio, Showreel)

Students will learn the fundamentals of business, basic law and methods of accounting essential for employment as a freelancer. The module will cover VAT, self-assessment, union membership, rates of pay, how to get a job and contracts of employment

Lectures, tutorials and practical sessions

Practical sessions supporting lectures will underpin the development of the underlying skills and knowledge required to complete the module and prepare for employment as a freelancer. Delivery will be supported by handouts and case studies.
