MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Written dissertation (7000 words) (100%) assessing all learning outcomes
Or alternatively, a video essay (20 mins) and accompanying portfolio assessing all learning outcomes (100%)
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
The film dissertation requires the development of strong research and study skills, which are used to undertake a focused piece of academic study based on a subject grounded in the student's award area. The project is negotiated with a supervisor and should reflect and consolidate the knowledge, skills and experience you have gained during previous levels of study. You will engage with historical and contemporary research and will be expected to engage with independent contextual analysis in your chosen field This assignment can be interpreted as either a traditional essay or, alternatively, as a video essay. The video essay is the audiovisual equivalent of a written essay and, as such, it follows the same principles as the written essay. It requires you to research, plan and develop your argument and to convey your ideas clearly and effectively. The audiovisual medium allows you to communicate your ideas in different ways but this should not compromise the academic integrity of your dissertation and your argument. The portfolio should consist of a 2000-word essay that will form the basis of the video essay, a 2-column script that will demonstrate how you intend to adapt the essay into audio visual form, and a repository of resources (images, video, book chapters, journal articles, books etc.) that will form the basis of the video essay.
