(1) The content of a Study Plan covering the student's entire course of study
(2) the content of comprehensive report on project management techniques
(3) the content of a critical literature survey report
(4) the content of an oral presentation of the report contents to a mixed audience of professional engineers
100% in-class assessment is in effect as follows:
Study Plan 25%, learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3.
2000 word Project Management Report 25%, learning outcomes 2, 3 and 5.
2000 word Literature Survey Report 25%, learning outcomes 1 and 3.
20 min seminar presntation of report contents 25%, learning outcomes 3, 4 and 5.
Satisfactory performance is required in all the elements of assessment to pass this module.
Module Indicative Content
* Exposure to a range of project management techniques, which will enable the student to successfully manage complex techniical projects.
* Application of a range of project management techniques to formulate a comprehaensive work plan for the student's entire course.
* Exposure to a broad range of fundamental technical issues which underpin the chosen field of study.
* Oral and written presentation skills training by self-managed study of a range of instructional videos and publications.
* Use of oral, written, and electronic communication to find information and to explain, appraise, debate and present complex issues relating to (1) project management and (2) the technical literature within the chosen field of study.
Module Learning Strategies
These learning strategies will occupy your time:
* Directed reading and learning, possibly supplemented by class attendance.
* Information gathering (Internet, books, technical articles, company literature etc).
* Discussions with experts in Industry and University.
* Use of existing software packages (business, word-proccessing, database, project scheduling etc).
* Report writing, incl. feedback on drafts.
* Preparation of oral presentation.
* Presentation and defence of work at seminar.
