Indicative Content
This module provides a broad context for practice-based research and the ways to approach a variety of creative projects. Practice as Research (PaR) is a way of working which enables you to use creative methods to research and develop meaning and information. This approach to research brings creativity and understanding to the fore in your research approach and empowers you to work in this rapidly emerging research discipline.
The focus of the module is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to utilise your practice to research and develop your work. This module offers a platform on which to build your final major project – undertaking examination of the methodologies and direction of your work in preparation for your final outward facing project. Understanding the potential impact and importance of your research and the work you create is a strong skill set and will enable you to consider where and how your work will be accessed, what it will do and where it can sit in wider discussions of meaning, interpretation and value.
Practice as research also links strongly to the Career Development Module as it offers the opportunity to explore the ways in which practice can be used to develop outward facing content which can be disseminated for impact.
The module will provide a background to practice as research methodologies, and conceptual ways to approach creative practice research. You will engage in research, discourse and analysis of the contemporary practice as research strategies within filmmaking and beyond.
You will develop the skills to plan, execute and evaluate a project based in creative practice, looking outwards to industry, creative sectors and research to place your work for impact and to generate discussion and awareness.
