Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module offers you the opportunity to take part in a residential study visit to a particular location, with access to sites which stimulate and encourage visual and written research methodologies and support developments in your personal project. You will gain first hand practical experience of local cultural and social conditions. You will undertake research into the relevant art historical, architectural and socio-political contexts for your visit. This information will give you the opportunity to examine the developing relationship between research, documentation and production. You will also be introduced to the skills necessary to manage and initiate independent study and to formulate individually identified goals appropriate to the duration of the visit. (Students will fully fund the study visit).
Module Learning Strategies
Teaching will be delivered by means of preliminary seminars and group tutorials as appropriate prior to the visit. During the visit, individual tutorials will take place as appropriate to facilitate each student's programme of study.
Visiting Sites specifically identified in the Project brief.
Visiting museums, galleries and libraries.
Documenting site visits through the use of drawing and photography.
Completing a daily diary and sketch book.
Collecting and gathering all relevant information for your proposed project.

Module Resources
Workshops chosen from a range of Faculty facilities available that are appropriate to your project or could serve to develop that practice.
Residential Centre.
Computers with image editing software.
Workshops, Library, Slide library and Studios.
Email and internet access.
Module Texts
Texts supplied in module information pack.
Texts as appropriate to venue/practice.
Students are expected to take advantage of the extensive library facilities available within the University, keeping abreast of current developments through appropriate periodicals and being aware of the work of major practitioners within the subject.
