Module Learning Strategies
The module involves a multifaceted approach to learning. 24 hours will be spent in class, and there will be 126 hours of independent study. The class contact hours will include teaching input at the beginning, then subject-based small group tutorials, and finally, time in which to deliver the assessed presentations. The independent study time will be largely dedicated to the development and delivery of a practical creative workshop in the context of a health environment. Additional independent study time will be devoted to reading focused on texts and other materials relevant to the conceptual and practical aspects of the module and the portfolio assessment.
Module Indicative Content
This module is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the role of arts in health settings and to undertake a practical creative workshop in a health context. Students will learn about the background and development of the arts and health movement. They will also have practical sessions with tutors to help them develop creative skills which may be used in a health setting. Students, in conjunction with tutors, will plan a creative workshop to be delivered in a health environment. The students will deliver a workshop which addresses a health issue in an appropriate setting, and reflect on their experiences and the immediate impact of the project.

Library - where you will find relevant textbooks and journals
Computer - where you will find relevant internet websites, particularly the 'Creative Remedies' regional arts and health website.
Practical placement in health context - placement support provided by placement tutor
Small faculty budget for workshop materials will be needed (e.g. paints, photographic paper, pens etc.)
Module Additional Assessment Details
The individual 10 minute presentation must provide reflection on the student's practical experience [Learning Outcome 2]
The portfolio will require evidence of the understanding of the arts and health movement, evidence of workshop planning and reflection on practical experience [Learning outcomes 1, 2, 4]
The portfolio will also demonstrate reading around the topic of arts for health.
The portfolio must contain:
1) A section demonstrating the understanding of the history and development of the arts and health movement. (750 words)
2) A workshop plan (500)
3) A section reflecting on what was learned from the workshop as well as reflecting on the impact of the workshop on participants/audience. (750 words)
