Module Indicative Content
This module aims to help you develop a wide range of skills in order to enable you to effectively find, evaluate, summarise and present information on designated topics appropriate to your award. You will be given guidance in the effective use of library and IT resources for information retrieval and processing, and in constructing job applications and handling job interviews.

The module comprises three main elements. An individual literature search will help to develop your skills in literature searching, planning, evaluating, summarising, presenting and independent learning, and will help prepare you for the independent research project at level three. A team-based project, which is a major problem-solving exercise based on a simulated crime case study, will help to develop your skills in problem-solving, data evaluation, summarising, presenting and team-working. Here you will work in a team of 3 to 5 students and you will be allocated a team supervisor. You will also be required to find an advertisement for an appropriate job, and to put together a mock application for the post, based on a CV and covering letter. Part of the assessment will be based on a mock interview for the post.
Module Learning Strategies
5 hours of tutorials during Teaching Block 1 will provide an introduction to the use of online resources to search the scientific literature, and in planning, executing and presenting a literature review of an appropriate topic.

5 hours of tutor-support will be provided in relation to the team-based project, which is a major problem-solving exercise based on a simulated crime case study. A brief introduction to the exercise will be given, followed by guidance through regular meetings between the team and the team supervisor.

2 hours of tutor-support will be provided in relation to the mock job application.
Module Resources
