Module Indicative Content
An understanding of descriptions of the various criminal offences, including those covered by the theft act; burglary and theft as well as other elements of dishonesty. An understanding of crime appertaining to the offences against the person (OAP) act and public order offences and the use of warrants and ASBOS. Sexual and racially and religiously aggravated offences. Crimes involving the use of poisons, explosive or corrosive substances and arson. Students will be informed of the relevant acts of law pertaining to crime. Case studies will be used to show problems and difficulties relating to the investigative requirements when dealing with terrorist and CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear) incidents. Students will study and understand the sensitive requirements relating to the investigation of sexual offences, racist and hate crime.

Module Learning Strategies
24 x 1h lectures to present the information combined with 24 x 1h tutorial session to discuss the outcomes from the lectures and related further reading. Non contact independent study will involve further reading, analysis of lecture notes to reflect on learning, approaching teaching staff as appropriate for further information to aid knowledge and understanding, and preparation/revision for the end of semester tests.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Summative Assessment:

The three hour total test time will be split into 2 x 1.5 hour tests (equally weighted)

Exam One will assess the content of Semester One (50%)

Exam Two will assess the content of Semester Two (50%)

They will take place the end of each Teaching Semester (learning outcomes 1-4)

Formative Assessment:
Short summative tests will be offered in tutorial sessions after weeks 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 of lectures to provide formative assessments towards the end of semester tests.
