Module Additonal Assessment Details

Poster presentation – linked to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4. Students choose a specific element of community policing (aligned to the module learning outcomes) from which to design and then present an interactive digital poster incorporating an audio recording. The use of QR codes and similar techniques should be used to make the poster interactive for those viewing and listening to the poster.

Poster and embedded audio to be submitted via Turnitin.


Module Indicative Content
This module will build on the core principles delivered at level 4. It will equip students to understand how engagement with communities can make a real difference to community cohesion and to be able to critique incidents and high-profile cases where relationships between police and public has broken down. The importance of engaging partners from the public, private and voluntary sector to support local communities and problem solving will be explored with a particular focus on anti-social behaviour. Current and future challenges to the delivery of this model of policing will also be explored and debated.

This module will cover:
• The impact of policing on different values, ethics and norms
• The impact of crime and anti-social behaviour on communities
• Key principles of community engagement
• Impact of policing practice on community cohesion
• Future role of community policing

Module Learning Strategies
13 x 2 hours of lectures will introduce the student to the application of community policing theories and the importance of police, public and partner relationships.
124 hours of independent study based on the reading list, lecture content and academic skills material to assist in the preparation of the assessment material.

Formative assessment will be provided by students completing a weekly reflective blog through Blackboard.
