Module Learning Strategies
Students will arrange to meet with their tutor at least every two weeks, but preferably weekly for approximately 15 minute sessions to discuss plans and report on progress (approximately 12h). The remaining time will be devoted to independent work to complete the programme established in the project proposal.
Module Texts
Texts/Journals will need to be consulted in relation to the topic area of the project.
Module Resources
Well resourced library and laboratory facilities, plus facilities for field working.
Blackboard VLE
Module Indicative Content
You will devise, plan, execute and report on a substantial piece of independent work in criminal investigation or a related aspect such as forensic science. The topic can be selected from a list or you can offer your own topic which would need to be agreed with an academic supervisor. It could include experimental work or fieldwork, but could be a quantitative critical evaluation of secondary data which you have assembled from literature or other sources. In all cases the project should reflect the subject area of the award. The topic will not normally overlap significantly with other independent work at level 3. The module will allow you to develop skills in defending your work through a viva-voce examination. You will need to select, deploy and adapt techniques, critically interpret and evaluate data, and present your findings both in writing and orally.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Project proposal (submitted by the end of week 4) containing a summary of background material and a plan of work, addressing outcomes 1 and 2 (20%)

A viva-voce examination based on the above report, addressing outcomes 4,5 (10%) and ensuring compliance with SENDA
Additional Assessment Details:
Information on the expectations and marking criteria will be provided in the module handbook and in a project preparation lecture.
Formative Assessment: This will be possible through meetings with your project supervisor and comments on drafts of proposal and sections of the written report.
