ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Objective structured performance examination – Students will take part in a series (approximately 8) of skills-focused simulations in which they will utilise their knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, powers, and procedures associated with daily policing activities and apply them in each scenario. Scenarios will take place throughout the module with each role play lasting between 10 and 30mins.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The module will be delivered through a mixture of taught classroom-based sessions and practical role play scenarios around campus, using the crime scene facility and court rooms to solidify your learning and embed their practical skills. You will utilise independent study, reflection, group work and case studies to enhance your understanding and confidence. The module is structured in a pattern which consists of theory refreshers, simulation exercises with feedback provided in debrief and then scheduled after, the practical assessment associated with this policing area; and then you move on to the next skill. This gives you the opportunity to refresh your knowledge and practice before undertaking the assessment. After each assessment, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your personal and professional development as part of the debrief to enhance your learning and professional development ahead of employment. You will also be guided through the observation schedule and marking criteria for each skill prior to each observation assessment, so you understand how to achieve your best. Each skills-based assessment is part of the same simulated case, so whilst the skills are all different core skills for police officers, the scenario/case they are based on links them together to provide a realistic experience reflective of professional practice.
