Learning Strategies
You will work both individually and in groups in two hour workshops incorporating lectures, viewing and listening, and tutorials. There will be practical training in editing software, with plenty of listening examples and exercises. You will discuss both written and audio work with tutors and your peers, considering the artistic and ethical results of your endeavours as well as the practical ones.

Introduction to writing for radio:
Writing styles/formal conventions in different genres
Basic editorial skills (proof-reading, re-writing, polishing)
The message - cultural/social/philosophical approaches
Painting sound pictures, use of language, use of effects
Familiarisation with various script formats (drama, documentary, magazine, news)
Ideas (and how to get them)

Training on audio editing software. Sessions will also cover the craft, the purposes and the ethics of editing, including:
Editing for different kinds of programme,
Editing to retain the essence of the original,
Editing to length
Editing for clarity
Editing music
Mixing speech, music and sound effects
